Performance, personal training and Pilates at Metawell is about building a body that can move well, recover well, and perform sustainably over time. Our performance services are guided by clinical knowledge, movement science, and years of working with individuals navigating injury, fatigue, stress, and recovery. Whether you are returning from injury, building strength, improving mobility, or simply wanting to move better in everyday life, our approach focuses on long-term resilience, instead of short-term intensity.

Our Approach

At Metawell, performance training is built on building quality structural and movement foundations:

  • Movement quality: Understanding how the body moves and correcting patterns that create strain or inefficiency. This is where we start with mobility, flexibility, stability, and endurance.
  • Strength and longevity: Building the muscular support systems that protect joints, improve posture, and enhance performance. We focus on ensuring long-term success - which for us, means the ability to keep showing up, getting up (especially off the floor), lifting up (especially our arms above our heads), and keeping our strength training functional and individualised.
  • Recovery integration: Ensuring the body has the support it needs to adapt, repair, and perform sustainably. We believe that we are not either "injured and doing rehabilitation" or "training hard", but that we train in the presence of injury - the amount of rehabilitation, strength, cardio or specific movements will depend on the injury, but we find what we can do: and do that.

 

Performance Services

1. Personal and Group Training

Individualised strength and movement training designed to improve mobility, stability, and overall physical performance. Our training programmes are tailored to each individual’s goals, physical history, and current capacity — whether that involves rehabilitation, performance development, or general health.

2. Pilates - Reformer and Mat

Pilates is particularly valuable for improving posture, restoring movement patterns, and building the stability required for both everyday function and athletic performance. Pilates at Metawell focuses on core control, glutes, mobility, and structural balance - all balanced within a functional movement framework. We offer both reformer and mat pilates, in a one-on-one setting, and in group classes.

3. Rehabilitation and Assisted Stretching

Our rehabilitation approach bridges the gap between injury and performance. Through posture, range of motion, strength and movement assessment, and progressive exercise therapy, we support individuals recovering from injury, surgery, or chronic musculoskeletal conditions. This work is delivered through our sister practice, JM Biokineticists (www.jmbio.co.za), where clinical rehabilitation and performance-based movement therapy form a key part of the broader Metawell performance and recovery ecosystem.
